TRADITIONAL  HAND - CARVED  ROCKING  HORSES

    9Comet

All rocking horses made by Peter Smith are lovingly built using traditional methods. The wood used to carve each horse is specially selected for quality, density and strength to ensure that your bespoke rocking horse is going to withstand many years of enthusiastic riding

Every rocking horse is made to order, this way the client is encouraged to
personalise their horse by choosing the colour of mane and tail in addition
to placing a family message or photographs in a sealed compartment built
into the horse's body during the building process.

The horse can be finished in painted dapple grey or have a natural wood
appearance. If the more traditional dapple grey is chosen the horse goes
through several processes starting with a rabbit skin glue mixed with
whitening to seal the timber and form a hard, smooth finish.

                .

After intensive sanding several coats of light grey paint are built up to
form the basic background colour of the horse. To complete the
finishing process dark grey dapple patches are carefully painted on the
body of the horse along with fine detail which is delicately applied to
the head itself.

Every horse therefore has it's own unique character ensuring that no two
  are ever the same.

The manes and tails are of course natural horse hair and all the tack
including the saddle is made from real leather. The overall appearance
is complimented by sturdy solid brass fittings - the horses look beautiful
and are well equipped to stand the test of time.
